Grading as Pedagogy: Effective Use of Grading & Gradebook
Abstract
Grading is an important part of teaching as it provides students with a measurement of performance. This interactive workshop will highlight how grades can help improve academic performance through the effective use of the Gradebook feature in LearningHub. Learn how to set up weights and/or points to receive aggregated data and how to determine the best option between categories and item selection. This hands-on workshop will provide just-in-time knowledge for the start of the fall semester.
Biography
Marsha has been providing Learning Management System (D2L and Moodle) support for Andrews University faculty, staff and students since September 2003. She provides front line helpdesk support for LearningHub as well as training and consultation for using educational technology tools in teaching and learning. Marsha has presented at numerous educational technology and Moodle conferences in the last decade.
Denise Shaver serves half time Instructional Designer for DLiT and half time Off Campus Programs Director for the School of Distance Education. In her Off-Campus Programs role she actively investigates ways to improve delivery and assessment of education in the Andrews University domestic and international affiliate and extension higher education sites. In her Instructional Designer role, she oversees online course development, ensuring a quality experience for course authors, faculty teaching online, and ultimately the student learning experience. Prior to her current position(s)in the School of Distance Education she was the Assessment Coordinator for the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, a position that she held from 2012-2014. In 2014 she completed her PhD in Curriculum & Instruction from the School of Education at Andrews University. She also possess an Educational Specialist and Master of Arts in Teaching degree from the same institution. Her teaching career in post-secondary institutions began in 1997.
