Biography

Janine Lim currently serves as associate dean for online higher education in the School of Distance Education at Andrews University, in Berrien Springs, MI. She and her team support over 200 online courses, provide training for faculty teaching online, and work with the campus infrastructure support of online learning. Her department also provides educational technology and Moodle support for faculty and students. In addition, Janine is responsible for the faculty and courses of the Consortium of Adventist Colleges and Universities. Janine has served on the board of the United States Distance Learning Association since April 2015. Prior to her work at Andrews University, Janine coordinated distance education for 22 K12 school districts in southwest Michigan for 14 years. In that position, as one of the co-founders of TWICE, Michigan’s K12 Videoconferencing Organization, Janine has spearheaded popular international K12 videoconference projects such as Read Around the Planet and MysteryQuest. While still serving on the board of TWICE, she was instrumental in designing and implementing the CAPspace website for collaborative videoconference projects. Janine has taught 15 unique graduate educational technology classes online numerous times over the past 15 years, with some classes attracting participants from all over the world. Her current research interests include teacher behavior in successful online courses, intersubjectivity in quality online discussions, and student activity patterns in self-paced courses.

Félix H. Cortez is Associate Professor of New Testament Literature at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan. He completed a masters in Modern Literature (focusing in Literary Theory and Hermeneutics) at Universidad Iberoamericana (México, 2001) and a doctorate in New Testament Studies at Andrews University (2008). Before coming to Andrews University, Cortez taught in the School of Theology at Universidad de Montemorelos (2007-2013). He has also served as a pastor in Mexico City for 4 years and as a conference youth director for 7 years. He was ordained as a minister in 1996 at Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Cortez is president of the Adventist Theological Society 2012-2014. He chairs the Catholic and Pastoral Epistles Section of the International Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature, and is a member of the steering committee of the Hebrews section. He has been inducted into the Honor Society Phi Kappa Phi, and is a member of the Adventist Society for Religious Studies, the review boards of several journals, and is evaluator of research projects for Universidad Adventista del Plata. Cortez contributed study notes for the Andrews Study Bible, the commentary on First Timothy for the forthcoming Andrews One-volume Bible Commentary, and is working on a Commentary on Hebrews. He is also the author of Did you know …?—a devotional book for young people published in Spanish, English, and French. Felix Cortez is married to Alma Alvarez and they have two children, Hadid, and Alma. Cortez enjoys sports, walking, reading, working around the house, and music.
