Abstract
The concept of virtual images and why they lead to angular rather than linear magnification of optical images can be vague for students. A particularly straightforward method of obtaining quantitative magnification for simple magnifiers, microscopes, and telescopes uses the technology that students carry in their backpacks—their camera phones.
