Proposal for Presentation
Adopting team-based active learning pedagogies can involve substantial time investment, reworking of teaching materials, or creation of additional media resources by instructors. I will describe two methods for implementing team-based learning in the higher education classroom that begin with existing PowerPoint slide decks and lecture notes (either self-authored or from textbook publishers). One is an application of Aronson's cooperative jigsaw classroom, originally developed to reduce interracial tensions following school integration in early 1970s Austin, Texas. The other is based on escape room games. Both help students practice teamwork and involve them in peer-to-peer instruction on content and skills.
