Proposal for Presentation

In 2017, Cathy Davidson called for a radical transformation of Higher Education in the face of rapid changes in work-related requirements. This transformation must include, according to Davidson, a greater emphasis on the promotion of critical thinking rather than the standardized testing of knowledge acquisition and (2) a shift to student-centered learning. In this presentation, Cedric Vine, winner of the 2021 Daniel Augsburger Excellence in Teaching Award, explores how the transformation envisioned by Davidson might look in practice. Vine sets out how the concept of ‘levelness’ and the development of higher–level skills through student–centered learning have remained central pedagogical elements to his approach to graduate theological education.
