Proposal for Presentation
This transcendental phenomenological qualitative research study explored the storied experiences of 8 Seventh-day Adventist teachers of color (Black and Hispanic) who either transferred schools and/or left teaching during the first five years of their teaching experience in Adventist P-12 schools. Semi-structured zoom interviews were conducted. The interviews were transcribed and thematically coded using the program NVivo. Member checking was used for validation. Cross-sectional analysis showed commonalities. Preliminary data and participants’ experiences indicated multiple reasons for the participants’ job mobility. Recommendations for teachers and administrators will be provided to improve teacher retention.
