Description
Seventh-day Adventist Church clergy in Africa traditionally rely on church sustentation benefits at their retirement. But the inadequacy of such provision has left most pastors in penury at retirement. This descriptive study investigated the pre-retirement attitudes and financial preparedness of Seventh-day Adventist clergy in Africa who were studying at the Theological Seminary at the Adventist University of Africa (AUA). A total of 105 pastors participated in the study. The data was analyzed using a descriptive statistics of frequencies and percentages. The findings revealed positive pre-retirement attitudes but low financial literacy and inadequate financial preparedness for retirement. Therefore, the study recommends financial education and pension scheme literacy should be included in ministerial education. Further, continuous educational initiatives, collaborations with financial experts for mentorship of clergy in general could be valuable and beneficial to enhance pre-retirement attitudes and financial preparedness of SDA clergy in Africa.
