An “old warhorse” in the band world is vernacular for a piece that is well known and popular for a long history of successful performance. Program featuring a number of pieces in this category, including John Philip Sousa’s "Washington Post March", Alfred Reed’s "El Camino Real", selections from Meredith Wilson’s hit musical "The Music Man", and a transcription of Franz von Suppé’s overture "Light Cavalry".
Additionally, we will introduce the audience to two candidates for “new warhorse”: Eric Whitacre’s lush fall music, "October", and Oja Gjeilo’s rhythmic groove piece, "Meridian"
