Guidelines for Articles & Book Reviews

Guideline for Articles

The editors of the Journal of Adventist Studies invite submissions of articles broadly dealing with the study of Adventism, including but not limited to Seventh-day Adventists, Millerites and other antecedents, and related groups. Articles may approach Adventism from diverse methodological perspectives. The editors especially welcome submissions from the disciplines of History, Religious Studies, Anthropology, and Sociology.

Articles should present a clear thesis statement, be supported by evidence, and demonstrate their relevance and significance to the field of Adventist Studies.

Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal’s online submission portal:
Submit a manuscript to the Journal of Adventist Studies

Manuscript Guidelines

Manuscripts must meet the following requirements:

  • 5,000–12,000 words, including footnotes
  • Double-spaced text
  • The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition, footnotes only; no parenthetical citations
  • Microsoft Word file format: .doc or .docx
  • Abstract of no more than 150 words

Review Process and Submission Policies

Because articles are subject to a double-blind review process, the manuscript itself should not include any identifying information, such as the author’s name, affiliation, or contact information.

Authors are responsible for obtaining all necessary permissions to reproduce images, media, tables, figures, or extended textual extracts. Unless otherwise stated by the editors, submissions must be in English.

The review process is estimated to take between 6 and 10 weeks. Articles should not be under review elsewhere at the time of submission.

Please direct all comments and questions to jas@andrews.edu.
