Earliest use Early Roman was for domestic purposes, late was for burials - Late Roman through Early Byzantine II according to pottery.

The bones in locus 10 - "1 adult male, age over 25"

Description: Now broken - both pieces fit together. Overlap 0.5 cm.

Round cross section.

No decoration evident.

40 individuals ranging from fetus to an adult 70 - 80 years old. Then bones of domestic animals (sheep, goats, donkeys)

Late Roman pottery -> heaviest use of cave for burials. Objects from this period: bone hairpin, needles, bronze rings, beads bracelets.

Bones were disarticulated because of making new graves. No robbery; secondary burials practices.

Arthritis, tooth wear.

Early Byzantine I and II produced ring with cross.

Caves for low socio-economic groups (wealthy - rock cut tombs)

No coffins; maybe linen shrouds, funerary objects were comparable to those placed in the tombs.

Ayyubid / Mamluk - domestic purposes. Small broach, beads, and crystal from this period. Crystal - earring, bracelet, or necklace piece.

Modern - temporary shelter.
