Beethoven's 250th Birthday Celebration (Ode to Joy!)
Andrews University
The Andrews University Symphony Orchestra (together with the University Singers and vocal soloists Sara Emerson, Julie Karpenko Reid, Charles Reid, and Stephen Zork), aim to celebrate the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven with a performance of his Symphony No.9 on May 1. The concert will open with a complementary world premiere composition by Andrews University graduate student Kaija Perry.

Rejouissance: Wind Symphony Vespers

Normally our annual Vespers Concert is part of the Andrews University Music Festival, but due to the pandemic we were unable to welcome our high school students to campus this year. But we will still continue our vespers tradition with a variety of wonderful sacred music, including some lively early American hymn tunes (Rhapsody on American Shaped Note Melodies by James Curnow and A Sacred Suite by Brant Karrick), sturdy hymns of old (God of Our Fathers by Thomas Knox and Be Thou My Vision by Travis Cross), and newer songs of praise (Joy Revisited by Frank Ticheli and Prologue from Stephen Curtis Chapman’s album “The Great Adventure”).

Ensembles include Andrews University Singers, Pioneer Men's Chorus, and Canta Bella. Conducted by Stephen Zork, featuring graduate conductor Kristii Rasmussen and undergraduate conductors Emily Jurek, Vivian Raimundo, and Beta Siriwattanakamol. The Department of Music presents the 2021 Young Artist Concert, this year in a two-part concert series. This first concert features student soloists Emily Jurek, piano, Jeremy Myung, violin, and Simon Luke Brown, violin. Featuring works by Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Brown. In addition, the world premiere of DOM faculty member Dr. Max Keller's orchestral work The Genesis.

Alexandra Kemble,Flute

As a native of Slovakia, Dr. Kemble has always been inspired by the cultural and mesmerizing aspects of music, especially when it comes to chamber music. A versatile performer, Aleksandra holds flute-teaching positions at Andrew’s University (MI), Indiana’s University of South Bend (IN), Goshen College (IN), and St. Mary’s College (IN) and is the principal flutist of the Elkhart Symphony (IN). Aleksandra received her Master’s Degree from the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Poland, and her Doctor of Arts Degree in flute performance from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Aleksandra is a member of the National Flute Association and was selected to perform in an annual flute convention held in Utah in 2019. Additionally, she is a member of the Suzuki Association of the Northern America, has completed multiple teacher-training sessions and is now a certified Suzuki Method educator. With numerous solos, collaborations, and competition awards under her professional life, Aleksandra is a devoted and passionate musician, performer, and educator.
