Presentation Abstract
My research seeks to combine computer programming, data science, biblical studies, linguistics, and hermeneutical philosophy. Theology, particularly Biblical studies as an academic discipline, must be datadriven. From this follows that - like any other science - its hypotheses must be founded on data patterns. Digital humanities has brought data science into the humanities and allows for sophisticated analyses of cultural objects. In my case, the object is the biblical text, my laboratory are programs like TextFabric and SHEBANQ, and my tools are linguistic questions, syntax databases, and search engines. In my presentation, I seek to illustrate my workflow with a few practical examples. I will show how the linguistic analysis of Biblical texts reveals deviations in language patterns that, in turn, form beautiful - and at times surprising - new insights into biblical theology.
