The purpose of this research was to determine if there is a significant difference in pre- and post-test scores as a result of administering faith-based emotional intelligence training to members and leaders within houses of worship of the Panamanian Southeast Mission of SDAs. An instrument with 25 statements representing two dimensions was designed and validated: (a) self-management (SEM1- SEM15) and (b) social management (SOM16-SOM25). The research was quasi-experimental, explanatory, cross-sectional and descriptive. Two pilot tests were conducted, one with members of the Regional Ministry of the Washington Conference
(WA) of SDAs and the other with health ministers and promoters of the Southeast SDA Conference of the Dominican Republic (DR). The instrument was then administered to members of the metropolitan area of Panamanian SDA Southeast Mission (Panama). The results of the pilot tests showed a significant difference in the increased perception of the participants in WA, while in the case of the DR, the difference was not statistically significant. In the case of Panama, the difference was significant and the effect size was large in both dimensions and in the EI construct. This research adds to the body of research indicating that emotional intelligence can be improved, not only in the business, personal and academic spheres, but also in ecclesiastical settings as well.
