Students at the emerging level are at a critical point in their language development journey. They are learning how the words they say look on paper and how those words can convey meaning. Each genre contains different elements that will help build and strengthen emergent literacy skills. Different genres can be used to teach important literacy skills that emergent learners need to develop. Looking through the lens of emergent literacy we can find out which genres are best suited for developing different skills.
