As our world becomes increasingly globalized, the need for multilingual professionals across the disciplines is growing. While it is clear that adult professionals benefit from proficiency in another language, advantages and disadvantages have been articulated for bilingual education. Bilingual education provides necessary language skills and cultural competency, however it is often expensive (diminishing access to vulnerable populations), and there is a lack of qualified teachers.
