Abstract

The objective of this abstract is to focus attention on the vision and national goals the Scottish government provides through the outdoor learning curriculum to every student enrolled in school. The curriculum provides a progressive variety of ecological outdoor experiences. As the perspective of the child changes with age, so too does the depth and comprehensiveness of interactive explorations of the environment around them. At every level teachers and community partners strive to recognize the place of outdoor learning within the curriculum and carefully implement a national plan to guarantee all children and young people in Scotland take full advantage of the outdoor learning opportunities as part of their educational experience. Outdoor learning improves classroom learning and is an influential way of addressing the Scottish Government National Outcomes, specifically, Scottish students have a great start in life and are ready to succeed and they value and enjoy the natural environment and guard it for future generations.
