Description

This paper begins by considering the features usually associated with fundamentalist Christianity, and uses them to develop two different measures of fundamentalism that are appropriate to a Seventh-day Adventist context. One of these is the perceived measure of tension between the Church and its social environment, and the other is a five-item scale. Both measures have been part of global surveys. In particular, they have been used in the global surveys into Adventist pastors, employees of Adventist organizations, and Adventist members. The paper uses the survey data to arrive at a conclusion as to whether or not Seventh-day Adventists should be considered to be Christian fundamentalists.
