Biography
Gary Burdick is professor of physics and dean of research. Burdick holds degrees from Southern Adventist University (1985) and the University of Texas at Austin (1991). After receiving his PhD, Burdick held postdoctoral positions in France, Hong Kong and Virginia. In his research area of optical spectroscopy, dealing with electronic (optical) transitions of lanthanide elements in solid-state media, he has established international collaborations with various research labs in New Zealand, Europe and the United States. He has more than 60 refereed scientific publications and many international conference presentations on his work.
Harvey J. Burnett is currently an Associate Professor of Psychology and the Chair of the Behavioral Sciences Department at Andrews University. Dr. Burnett received his PhD in Counseling Psychology from Andrews University, a Master of Divinity from the Andrews University Theological Seminary. Presently, he serves as the clinical director and board member of the Berrien County Critical incident Stress Management (CISM) Team. Dr. Burnett’s research interests include: trauma and stress related disorders, resilience, disaster behavioral health and crisis intervention response, and substance use and abuse.
Dr. Ponce-Rodas earned her PhD in community psychology, which examines individual and systemic influences on human behavior. Her main research areas are domestic violence and mental health stigma, exploring the ways in which cultures, such as ethnicity and religion, affect these. She teaches various psychology courses, ranging from intro to a senior practicum. She and her husband are blessed with twin boys, who always provide interesting class examples!
Dr. Ryan T. Hayes, Professor of Chemistry, has been teaching chemistry at Andrews University since 2009 and has a passion for making chemistry understandable for people of all ages. Dr. Hayes performs research on carcinogenic molecules, flexible nanopolymers called dendrimers, and minerals in food and water. He has a passion for helping the general public to see and appreciate God’s chemical design of Earth.
