Abstract

Please join us for an engaging and interactive workshop on how to design learning for all students, including individuals with physical, mental, health and learning differences and or cultural, racial and language diversity. This session will cover “the what, why and how” of developing accessible and instructional content and delivery. Discover or reimagine Universal Design for Learning to create an inclusive educational environment. This workshop will prove valuable for face-to-face and online instructors who use LearningHub to support their course. Come prepared to improve or design accessible instructional materials for your course.

Biography

Denise Shaver provides leadership and support for instructional design of online or blended courses. She provides online teaching training and support for faculty; creates support documents and resources; reviews the implementation of technology in online courses; researches and implements emerging and research supported online pedagogies; and supervises Instructional Facilitators in supporting online course design.Prior to her current position(s)in the School of Distance Education & International Partnerships she was the assessment coordinator for the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, a position that she held from 2012–2014. In 2014 she completed her PhD in curriculum & instruction from the Andrews University School of Education. She also holds Educational Specialist and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees from the same institution. Her teaching career in post-secondary institutions began in 1997.

Carletta Witzel, MA, is the student intervention coordinator and disabilities service provider for Andrews University. As a member of the Student Success Center team, she coordinates accommodations for students with disabilities and helps any student who is experiencing academic difficulties. Her areas of research interest include disability law and academic support.
