Wolfgang F.E. Preiser, Ph.D., Professor of Architecture. School of Architecture and Interior Design, College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Wolfgang F.E. Preiser holds a Ph.D. in Man-Environment Relations from Pennsylvania State University (1973), and Masters Degrees in Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (1969), and the Technical University of Karlsruhe, Germany (1966). His undergraduate degree in Architecture is from the Technical University in Vienna, Austria (1963).

He has accumulated over thirty years of experience in teaching, research and consulting, with special emphasis on evaluation and programming of environments, health care facilities, public housing, universal design, and design research in general. Preiser was Principal Investigator for the Facilities Master Plan for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. He has received many Awards, Fellowships and Honors, including: two Progressive Architecture Awards for Applied Research; two Fulbright Fellowships; two Professional Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts; the EDRA Career Award; and, the Rieveschl Award for Scholarly and Creative Works, the Faculty Achievement Award, the Outstanding Service Award, and others, all at the University of Cincinnati. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi.

He has had visiting lectureships at 39 universities in the United States and Canada, and 69 universities/venues and professional associations overseas. An international building consultant, Dr. Preiser was co-founder of Architectural Research Consultants, Inc., Albuquerque, New Mexico. Preiser has edited and written numerous articles and books, including: Facility Programming; Programming the Built Environment; Post-Occupancy Evaluation; Design Intervention: Toward a More Humane Architecture; Pueblo Style and Regional Architecture; Programming the Built Environment; Building Evaluation; Professional Practice in Facility Programming; Design Review: Challenging Urban Aesthetic Control; New Directions in Urban Public Housing; Directions in Person-Environment Research and Practice; Universal Design Handbook; Improving Building Performance; and most recently, Assessing Building Performance.

He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Environment and Behavior, and serves on the editorial boards of Architectural Science Review, Ultimate Home Design, and Research Design Connections. He is a member of the Environmental Design Research Association (former Vice-Chairman and Secretary), the Society of Human Ecology (USA, Co-Founder and President 1979-86), and the International Association for People-Environment Studies. He has served on national committees with the American Institute of Architects, the Building Research Board of the National Academy of Sciences, and the National Institute for Disability Rehabilitation Research.
