Grading as Pedagogy: Effective Use of Grading & Gradebook

Abstract

Grading is an important part of teaching as it provides students with a measurement of performance. This interactive workshop will highlight how grades can help improve academic performance through the effective use of the Gradebook feature in Learninghub. Learn how to set up weight and or points to receive aggregated data and how to determine the best option between categories and item selection. This hands-on workshop will have adequate just-in-time knowledge for the start of the fall semester.

Biography

Denise Shaver provides leadership and support for instructional design of online or blended courses. She provides online teaching training and support for faculty; creates support documents and resources; reviews the implementation of technology in online courses; researches and implements emerging and research supported online pedagogies; and supervises Instructional Facilitators in supporting online course design.Prior to her current position(s)in the School of Distance Education & International Partnerships she was the assessment coordinator for the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, a position that she held from 2012–2014. In 2014 she completed her PhD in curriculum & instruction from the Andrews University School of Education. She also holds Educational Specialist and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees from the same institution. Her teaching career in post-secondary institutions began in 1997.

Sam Villamizar is learning systems administrator, Moodle administrator at Andrews University. He provides technical and server support for Moodle hosted at Andrews University. Born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela; Villamizar graduated in 1992 from Ivy-Tech College with an Associate in Applied Science in electronics technology. In 1997 he received a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Andrews University. Before coming to Andrews, Villamizar worked as a technology director for the Michigan Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
