Teacher tenure has a long history and a debatable future. Recently tenure has come under the fire as to whether it is necessary and further, whether it benefits schools and students. Tenure as a practice began for a numbers of reasons, including protecting teachers from overbearing parents, board members, and politicians. Many people now argue that tenure has become too protective, only benefiting the teacher while actually hindering students and schools.
